Why Invest In eTrapp Instead of Using A Float Switch?

A cheap float switch is a last measure of defense before a clogged condensate line overflows the air conditioner pan. The eTrapp Condensate Treatment System is a multifunctional smart system. It solves the root cause of clogged condensate lines eliminating overflows altogether.

How A Float Switch Works

A float switch works by shutting down the air-conditioning system when the condensate level in the pan gets so high that it may overflow. If the condensate level is so deep in the pan that the float switch is triggered, it means that the condensate line is clogged. The water is unable to flow through the condensate output line as it should.

To get the air-conditioner back on, the homeowner/business owner needs to manually clean the gunk out of the line, or they’ll need to pour caustic chemicals into the line to kill the growth. Those who don’t know how to perform this maintenance or are physically unable to do it will need to call an HVAC repair company. The homeowner or business owner will not be able to run the air-conditioner until this issue is resolved. The line will eventually clog again.

How eTrapp Works

A condensation line that is clear of clogs

Unlike a simple float switch, eTrapp Condensate Treatment System is proactive, not reactive. eTrapp’s patented system works like a water treatment plant that is plumbed directly into the air-conditioner’s condensate output line. The condensate from the air conditioner flows through the eTrapp unit and is constantly treated via the cartridge. The eco-friendly compound is non-corrosive on pipes, and it includes gelling technology. Any surviving bacteria and debris can’t attach and grow on the walls on the output pipe.

eTrapp doesn’t just keep the condensate output line free and clear of bacterial growth and debris. It also prevents sewer gas backflow into the air-conditioning system.

eTrapp’s App alerts the unit owner about potential problems based on the condensate level in the unit. If the eTrapp is 95% full of condensate, eTrapp’s IoT Hub sends a notification to the unit owner via the eTrapp App and the Pro via the ProPortal. Additionally, if there’s less than 20% condensate, an alert will be sent to run the system. This alert indicates that the air-conditioning unit needs to run to increase the condensate level to prevent any gas backflow. A float switch is not capable of this function.

The eTrapp System can work in concert with a float switch if the user prefers it. Be aware, however, that float switches are only designed to last for a few years if properly maintained. The eTrapp Installation Kit includes a water sensor for the pan. This sensor shuts down the air-conditioning system in the rare case that condensate flows into the pan.
